Sustainable and regional – news on the Communal Catering menu

[Translate to English:]

Sustainability and climate protection are a must today – even in large-scale catering. The desire for a menu that meets these needs comes not only from the guests, but also from the providers. Operators of canteens and community catering facilities must react to this as well as caterers in order to assert themselves on the market.

Symposium "Sustainable, plant-based communal food"

On 5 February 2024, the specialist conference on communal catering took place at INTERGASTRA 2024. Peter Hauk MdL, Minister for Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, opened the symposium. DEHOGA Baden-Württemberg also presented the "Taste the South - Enjoyment Out of Home" programme. The programme was rounded off with presentations by the German Chefs' Association (VKD) and the independent working group of hospital kitchen managers.

School catering congress

The challenges in the education systems of our time are of unprecedented size. Children who attend kindergarten today will not complete their education until after 2040, thus entering a world that has changed profoundly. The quality of school meals plays a key role in their development. This not only influences their eating habits, but also shapes future table guests in the catering industry.

School meals go beyond the mere supply

School cafeterias become a place of life and a field of action for optimal nutrition learning. The 14. School catering congress on 6 February 2024 in Stuttgart will live up to this holistic approach. There, the Network Schulverpflegung e.V. meets representatives of the out-of-house industry, experts from politics, companies, associations, science, consumer organisations and various school bodies. International guests broaden the horizon and contribute to treat the topic globally beyond national borders. This fusion of ideas and expertise is the key to optimally shaping the future of the school kitchen.
