WETEC impresses visitors and exhibitors alike05.02.2020 - 11:31
The trade fair combination for visual communication and haptic advertising, EXPO 4.0, was an impressive event with 421 exhibitors and 12,518 visitors held from 30 January to 1 February 2020 in Stuttgart. As part of EXPO 4.0, WETEC 2020 was the industry gathering for the advertising technology community. This trade fair gave a comprehensive overview of advertising technology, illuminated advertising and digital printing, as well as providing a wide range of activity spaces to try product innovations and have discussions with like-minded people. Even though the trade fair schedule for the first half of 2020 is tight, the event exceeded the expectations of the 103 exhibitors, which included market giants and industry leaders such as Mimaki Deutschland GmbH, H. Brunner GmbH, IGEPA Systems GmbH and 3M Deutschland GmbH.
It was clear that WETEC had taken an increasingly international approach. Messe Stuttgart's worldwide network provided exhibitors from 15 countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, the USA, Austria and Poland. The task of further expanding WETEC's impact in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region and in other European countries is on the agenda for 2022.
Decision-makers from the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region come to the sector meeting place
Visitors were impressed by the comprehensive market overview given by the range of exhibitors, taking particular interest in advertising technology, digital printing, full vehicle wraps/films and illuminated advertising. The EXPO 4.0 trade fair combination attracted 17 per cent international visitors from 50 countries to Stuttgart. With 30 per cent of the international visitors from Switzerland and 28 per cent from Austria, the appeal of this leading European trade fair is apparent. 28% of all visitors travelled more than 300 kilometres to participate at EXPO 4.0 in Stuttgart.
For many years, the quality of its visitors has been a reliable constant at EXPO 4.0. Four out of five of them are involved in purchasing and procurement decisions, 87% have concrete intentions to buy and 84% of visitors would like to make an investment within the next year. An overall rating of the trade fair combination with the grade 2.0 and the intention to return on the part of three out of four visitors underline the positive synergy effects that result from the fact that the three trade fairs in the EXPO 4.0 trade fair combination are held in parallel. This is also reflected in the amount of time visitors spend at the event - on average 4.8 hours at the three trade fairs.
Accompanying programme rounds off the trade fair concept
In addition to the wide variety of exhibitors, WETEC offered an impressive accompanying programme tailored to its target audience and designed to encourage visitors to join in.
The WORK AND DO and WRAPandSTYLE activity areas, as well as 3D Print World – making its first appearance – went down very well with visitors. Both partners and exhibitors praised WETEC's concept. "The concept of the exhibition and accompanying programme was well-founded and impressive," says Uwe Niklas, General Manager of Sales at Mimaki Deutschland.
The two-year trade fair cycle also paves the way for WETEC's successful growth. Tim Hansen, Managing Director at illuminated advertising company Hansen GmbH, confirms that "the trade fair takes place at an ideal time during the winter months. The fact that the trade fair is a biennial event fits very well with the industry's innovation cycle."
The next WETEC will take place, together with TV TecStyle Visions and GiveADays, as part of the EXPO 4.0 trade fair combination in two years' time. The dates 10 to 12 February 2022 are currently reserved.

The trade fair was a very positive experience for us! WETEC really could not have gone any better, we were almost overrun with visitors. We believe that WETEC is the most exciting trade fair in Germany at the moment. Although the fair is on our home patch, we were surprised at how many of our regular customers made their way down here from the north, from places like Berlin and Hamburg. The entire organisation is superb and we appreciate the ongoing excellent partnership, which now also includes Messe Stuttgart. We will definitely come back again in 2022!

WETEC is the most important trade fair for us. It is almost a "home match" for us.
The entire trade fair was a great success. Our idea of also showcasing ourselves at a completely different stand, which took the form of a "classroom" for the industry, worked out very well. The concept was a good conversation-starter and we definitely reached our target audience here. We not only saw customers from Germany but also trade visitors from Switzerland and Austria.
