SÜFFA 2020 cannot take place
The last few weeks have shown that trade fairs are possible again in Germany since the beginning of September and can be successfully implemented with corresponding hygiene and safety concepts. These were actually good signs for SÜFFA. But now the popular trade fair for the meat industry must join the list of trade fairs not taking place this year due to the corona pandemic. SÜFFA would have been the first big platform of the meat industry in autumn, which would have been able to take place again since the introduction of the corona restrictions. However, based on recent developments Messe Stuttgart, as organiser, sees no alternative but to postpone the 25th anniversary of this year's SÜFFA to 6 to 8 November 2021. The decision was made in close liaison with and by mutual agreement of the partner and conceptual sponsor, the Baden-Württemberg State Association of Butchers' Guilds.
The reason is a general uncertainty due to the situation, which has ultimately led to cancellations by several market leaders, who are considered important disseminators. "We took this development very seriously as a signal and reacted accordingly with regard to open and transparent communication at all times", says Andreas Wiesinger, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Stuttgart. A subsequent exhibitor survey showed that SÜFFA enjoys enormous support and is very important for the companies, but lacks a sufficient basis for the implementation of a successful SÜFFA this year. "We deeply regret this step, but naturally respect the vote. The meat industry will also use SÜFFA as a central platform in the future. Many exhibitors have already indicated their participation in SÜFFA 2021", says Andreas Wiesinger, summing up the result of the survey.
However, the SÜFFA brand will still have a presence in Stuttgart in autumn. "Despite the postponement of the trade fair, we will carry out our SÜFFA quality sausage competitions on 7 November 2020. The calls for tender will be issued soon", says Joachim "Joggi" Lederer, State Guild Director of the Baden-Württemberg State Association of Butchers' Guilds, who also deeply regrets the postponement of the trade fair.
afz-akademie, organised by the trade journal afz – allgemeine fleischerzeitung, takes place at the same time on Saturday, 7 November 2020, in the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. It offers professionals in the meat industry an opportunity to exchange expertise and attend practical workshops with keynote speakers from practice.
The next SÜFFA will take place as planned from 6 to 8 November 2021.
