The optical measurement, laser cutting, and laser welding systems are being used along the fuel cell production process chain. The optical sensors allow the measurement of geometrical features < 1 micron. They are used to measure roughness, porosity, and position bipolar plates and MEA. Furthermore, they can measure thicknesses of in-transparent coatings, such as metallic layers. The laser cutting heads allow for high-quality cutting of bipolar plates as an alternative to stamping. Finally, the sensor for laser welding monitoring gives information on the quality of the weld. In-line and in real-time our sensor provides a classification if the weld is OK or NOK. This allows a severe reduction of time-consuming end-of-line tightness testing.
