Whether an amateur golfer or a professional putter, whether a whirlpool beginner or a wellness expert: around 32,000 visitors came to the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre from 17 to 20 January 2019 to obtain information on different innovations in the area of wellness and in the world of golf. Golf and Wellness Holidays was held in conjunction with the subsidiary show Cruises and Ship Travel during CMT 2019, the world's largest consumer show for tourism and leisure. "The interests of the visitors to both exhibition overlap in many respects. We were able to make good use of these synergies," revealed Dörte Werner, Project Manager for Golf and Wellness Holidays. The concept also impressed Christian Hauk, Marketing and Sales Director at the travel operator Bentour: "Since we not only offer golfing holidays, but also address a wider target group with our holiday portfolio, placement in this hall with the four key topics is ideal for our company."
The concept also proved very popular among the visitors who were surveyed during Golf and Wellness Holidays since 91 per cent of them rated the programme as complete. Three quarters of visitors awarded the exhibition the school marks "Very good" to "Good". The visitors came from far away in order to benefit from the concentrated expertise in the Paul Horn Hall (Hall 10): 1 in 5 visitors travelled a distance of more than 100 kilometres. Just under three quarters of the visitors had direct purchase intentions or made purchases at the event.
Relaxing and thereby helping otherpeople
"The demand for wellness services and short luxury breaks has been increasing for many years," said Patrick Schicha from Vita Hotel Meiser in Fichtenau. "We recorded a substantial increase in the number of bookings during the exhibition." Not only was it possible to ideally plan future relaxation phases during Golf and Wellness Holidays, the well-being factor was also catered for.
The services offered during the "Wellness Village“ went down very well. Visitors pampered themselves there in different ways ranging from a tension-loosening massage through to a professional haircut – and for a good cause too. "The money collected by the team from MAKS-Friseure (hairdressers) will be donated to the 'Children For a Better World‘ Foundation," said Project Manager Werner. She was visibly proud about the success of the action. "A total of around €1,000 was raised. We are delighted with this sum."
Golf still very much in vogue
The Baden-Württemberg Golf Association (BWGV) was also pleased to record increasing membership figures this year. However, even its President Otto Leibfritz had not expected such high demand on the Association's stand. "Although we have always experienced increasing interest to date, there was a veritable explosion this time around. Stuttgart is a wonderful location for exhibitions and the cooperation between the CMT Team and our crew was fantastic. Overall, I awarded the exhibition top marks. We were very popular and welcomed large numbers of visitors to our stand. The target public of the exhibition corresponds exactly to our target group, every purchaser generation from 14 to 80 years was in the hall. We will definitely come back again next year. That's a must!”
The opinion of BWGV President Leibfritz was shared by 85 per cent of the surveyed visitors who were intending to come back to the exhibition next year. Golf Management Association Germany (GMVD) also organised the now traditional Business Talk. Under the key topic of "Shortage of experts in golf management", experts discussed, for example, the options for recruiting more trainees.
Numerous innovations in the programme
In addition to the innovations on the exhibitors' stands, the accompanying programme featured a large number of highlights. For example, the recently established "German Long Drive Championship“ used Golf and Wellness Holidays as a setting for its pre-reason event on Messe Stuttgart's own driving range. Jordan Brooks from England was the winner of this competition after he hit the longest drive measuring 428 yards. "Although long drives are not the typical golf game, but more of a young feature of the sport, visitors positively welcomed this innovative experiment," said Marcel Baumgard, owner of Powering Drives and the co-organiser of the German Long Drive Championship, with satisfaction. "We received only positive feedback.“
Golf Post presents the Community Award
Four golf clubs also had reasons to rejoice as they were presented with the first ever "Golf Post Community Award“ during Golf and Wellness Holidays. Around 6,500 readers of the online golf magazine had picked a winner in each of 5 categories. The readers primarily honoured golf courses "which have hitherto only been known regionally, but are really worth playing on account of their great dedication," said Matthias Gräf, CEO of Golf Post AG. In addition to the four winners, 28 other clubs were honoured with a "Community Recommendation". Messe Stuttgart was also pleased with a top rating in the area of "Community Recommendations": 93 per cent of surveyed visitors said that they would recommend the exhibition to friends or acquaintanceship.
"Golf & Wellness Holidays 2020" will be held on the second weekend of CMT from 16 to 19 January 2020.
Overview of further comments by exhibitors
Matteo Wacker, Managing Shareholder, WACKER GmbH: "We had already attended other exhibitions here in Stuttgart and followed the recommendation of other exhibitors to take part in Golf and Wellness Holidays. We were absolutely thrilled by the keen interest shown by the visitors. The response was much higher and more positive than we had imagined. A large number of people came specifically to our stand and were well-informed. However, we were also able to generate new contacts who often still book locally at one of our partners. We are extremely satisfied and will certainly come back again next year
Petra Weindl, Sales Director, Ringhotels e.V.: "We are present with our wide offering not only at Golf and Wellness Holidays, but also at Cycling and Hiking Holidays. We came here for the second time and were surprised that this year even surpassed 2018! The visitors showed keen interest in our offer, even non-golfers came specifically to our stand. Stuttgart is simply the most important exhibition for southern Germany."
Christopher Bauer, Online Marketing Manager, Golf & Hotel: "We are again very satisfied with the exhibition. We were now here with a slightly larger stand. The visitors were very mixed. We can profit from this and must also be represented here. It is also exciting to be able to forge one or two contacts in the B2B area. We will also certainly come back again next year."
