Key to the Cutting Edge

Stuttgart as a place to do business

Since the invention of the car here more than 130 years ago, Stuttgart has been regarded as a hotbed of innovation. Ingenuity and hard work, coupled with cross-industry innovation, have earned the region its position as one of Europe’s strongest business locations. Large companies and research institutions form a unique industry cluster, joining forces in 25 technology sectors, ranging from automotive to environmental technology.

Porsche, Daimler and Bosch provide impetus for Stuttgart’s economy, employing some 100,000 people in the region. In addition, hidden champions and young start-ups shape the corporate landscape. Two universities, plus the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, as well as private and public institutions of higher education make the region a fertile breeding ground for the specialists of tomorrow.

Each year, 30% of all German patents are registered in the region. In addition, two Max Planck and five Fraunhofer Institutes make the Stuttgart region one of Europe’s leading locations for research.
