2.2. Other optional features, purposes and legal bases of processing

Camera data

The event app requires access to the camera functions on your end device to scan QR codes and record image memos. In order to offer you a selfie function, with which you can enrich images with design elements of the respective trade fair, the event app requires access to the camera functions as well as access to the photos on your end device. The data is stored on your device.

Access is only provided once you have given your prior consent. You may revoke your consent to access in the settings of your operating system at any time with effect for the future. Some features may not be available if you revoke your consent.

Interactive hall plan

In order to be able to display your location within the trade fair grounds in the hall plan, the event app requires access to the GPS location data of your end device. The data is not transferred to Messe Stuttgart or one of our service providers.

Access is only provided once you have given your prior consent. You may revoke your consent to access in the settings of your operating system at any time with effect for the future by disabling access in the app settings on your end device.

Some features may not be available if you revoke your consent.

It is also possible to use the hall plan without location data.

2.3 Networking functions of our event app

In order to be able to use the event app beyond the basic functions, the user's consent is required to process their personal data within the framework of registration for the networking functions.

Following registration and acceptance of the terms and conditions of use, we process your data for the provision of the networking functions in the manner stipulated under 3.) as follows:

Profile data for the public participant index

After registering for the networking functions of the event app, a personal profile is automatically created for you. You can add additional data to your profile, e.g., in the fields "Company", "Job title", "Telephone number", "Fields of interest", "Other information and a profile picture". The data is used for the self-promotion of the user to other users, to describe interests and to simplify establishing and maintaining contact. You can deactivate the display of profile data for other participants in the app.

Exchange of contact details and between individual participants

Using the QR code scan function you can forward your own contact details to other networking participants or receive the contact details of other users using the same function. When other users scan your QR code, your contact details stored in the app are forwarded to the other user. The same applies to the digital business card exchange between networking participants. This personal data includes, e.g., first name and surname, e-mail address, company, job title, telephone number/mobile number, as well as the other information you have provided in your profile.

Chat function

You can call up and manage messages in the "Message Center" under the "Networking" tab.

Using the Chat function you can communicate with other users of the app in private chatrooms without this being visible to other participants other than those defined by you. The setup of a chatroom initially requires a contact interest confirmed by one of the two participants in the app. You can send a request to any participant in the public participant index; the chat option is opened when the requested contact confirms your request.

To make this Chat function available, we process your personal data, particularly your data within the framework of your user account (surname, first name, company, job title, profile picture and country). We also process the content of the respective chat conversation.

Matchmaking function

The app makes suggestions for people at a suitable place in order to facilitate contact with other networking participants. To generate these suggestions, we process the data from your personal profile, particularly also the information in your fields of interest.  You can deactivate the Matchmaking function at any time with effect for the future in your profile settings, your profile is then no longer visible to other participants.

Address data

We require access to your address book to save contacts received via the contact and connectivity functions described here. To facilitate making contact - if you have provided consent in the app - data in the address book of your device is read and displayed in the app; the data is not transferred to Messe Stuttgart or one of our service providers. You may revoke your consent to access in the settings of your operating system at any time. Some features may not be available if you revoke your consent.

With address book access, you have the option to save the contacts received from a digital business card or the exhibitor index directly in your address book as a contact. A check is carried out on your device locally to see if the contact is already saved in your address book. Our app needs access to your address book to save the exhibitor contacts.

Via the address book access you also have the option to invite your own contacts to use the app. As soon as a search for a contact who is not yet an app user / networking participant is conducted in networking, after you allow access to the address book a check is carried out to see whether the user is in the local address book in order to invite them to use the app.

Access is only provided once you have given your prior consent. The legal basis for your consent is in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you may revoke at any time with effect for the future. To do this, deactivate the access in the app settings on your end device.

Legal bases for the aforementioned data use

We process the data to use the networking functions on the basis of your consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. Individual profile information is also forwarded on the basis of the consent requested in the app in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
