Sustainability at Messe Stuttgart

Messe Stuttgart and ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart have been implementing targeted measures to reduce resource consumption since the site opened in October 2007, focusing on energy, resource conservation, mobility, and climate protection. Their central objective is to use resources sparingly and act responsibly.

This commitment is reflected in their operations: Messe Stuttgart uses electricity from hydropower and other renewable sources, backed by guarantees of origin. It also continuously invests in reduction measures and offsets remaining emissions through internationally recognized climate protection projects. In 2010, Messe Stuttgart introduced the “Green Steps” as an internal standard. In subsequent years, it signed the “fairpflichtet” sustainability code of the events industry as well as the KLIMAWIN Charter—formerly known as the WIN Charter—for sustainable business practices in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. In 2024, Messe Stuttgart also joined the Climate Alliance of Baden-Württemberg, enabling it to contribute valuable experience from the trade fair and events industry to the alliance on sustainability-related matters. In 2025, Messe Stuttgart was additionally recognized as a partner organization of the Sustainable Travel Destination Stuttgart Region.

In addition, Messe Stuttgart supports the fairpflichtet industry initiative and is committed to fostering dialogue on sustainability issues in the events industry.

Sustainability Award 2024

In 2023, Messe Stuttgart won the German Sustainability Award. The German Sustainability Award recognizes companies that are particularly successful in meeting ecological and social challenges with their products and services and thus use sustainability as an economic opportunity. The award is a confirmation of Messe Stuttgart's sustainable self-image and a motivation for future action.
