Electricity from Photovoltaics and Hydropower

• 36,400 square metres of solar panels on the roofs of Messe Stuttgart and ICS, plus 7,000 square metres on the Bosch car park, generate 4.23 million kWh of electricity per year (2025). This is enough to supply approximately 882 four-person households for one year. Compared with the average national electricity mix, this mathematically avoids around 1,535 tonnes of CO_2 annually (2025).
• Procurement of CO_2-neutral electricity from hydropower, backed by guarantees of origin.

Heating and Cooling

• Intelligent heat recovery and highly efficient gas condensing technology.
• Cooling is provided by an environmentally advanced thermal energy storage system: renewable electricity is used to produce ice at night, which is then used during the day to reduce the load on the refrigeration systems.
• The displacement ventilation system reduces the required ventilation volume by supplying air to the lower areas of the halls. Instead of circulating and replacing all the air, only the lower section of each hall—up to a height of approximately four metres—is supplied with fresh air without creating draughts.

Additional Energy-Efficiency Measures

• Daylight in all 33 ICS rooms, creating a pleasant atmosphere while reducing electricity consumption.
• Partially glazed façades and continuous bands of windows provide daylight to every hall and the connecting walkways. Overhead daylight helps minimize the energy required for artificial lighting.
• Modern conference technology with documented energy efficiency.
