CMT 2018: Fireworks at the start of the year

18.10.2017 - 11:05

In 2018, CMT is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It will be the first Messe Stuttgart event to use the new Paul Horn Halle (Hall 10), and will expand its total exhibition surface area to 120,000 square metres, and will thus be the biggest CMT ever. The caravaning section will increase in area by a total of 10,000 square metres.

A round-number birthday, an additional trade fair hall, an expanding caravaning section and excellent sales figures: The outlook for the anniversary CMT 2018 (13 – 21 January) could not be better.

Since the event was founded in 1968, then under the name "Motor Sport Freizeit" (Motor Sport Leisure), a lot has happened. In the meantime, CMT has developed to become the world's largest consumer show for tourism and leisure, every year attracting around 240,000 visitors and over 2000 exhibitors to the industry's annual kick-off event in Stuttgart.

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the trade fair is now giving itself a present, and will be the first Messe Stuttgart event to use the new Paul Horn Halle (Hall 10). The trade fair is thus expanding its overall surface area to 120,000 square metres, the caravaning section will grow by an entire hall (10,000 square metres), thus filling a total of six halls. "The expansion of the overall hall capacity is happening at the perfect time for us," CMT Team Manager Alexander Ege is delighted to say. "Thanks to the additional surface area, we can offer the visitors to our anniversary event the biggest CMT ever – with even more exhibitors and even more offers. This year, for example, we will have around 1000 recreational vehicles on show."

Beside the Messepiazza and at the East Entrance, this year the theme of "Camping/Caravaning" will be presented for the first time in six trade fair halls.

  • L-Bank Forum (Hall 1): In this hall, the volume manufacturers will showcase their new products. In the motor-vehicle gallery, presentations will concentrate on the themes of caravaning and mobility on holiday.
  • Hall 2: Here, Knaus Tabbert will highlight the innovations of the various brands.
  • Hall 3: Manufacturers from the premium segment and other volume manufacturers will present themselves.
  • Hall 5: Here, trade fair visitors will find hobby vehicles, as well as more volume manufacturers and special offers for newcomers.
  • Hall 7: This hall is the meeting place for all camping bus and van fans. Here, there will also be a special area for bus camping equipment and modular equipment systems.
  • Hall 9: Here the visitors will find the complete range of accessories, as well as attractive camping and parking site offers. This year's caravaning partner region, Trentino (Italy), will also be prominently presented at this location.

On the gallery of the L-Bank Forum (Hall 1) and in Hall 5, the visitors will also find a greatly expanded selection of offroad and expedition vehicles.

The result of the significant increase in available space is that many brands can present themselves for the first time at CMT. Among the newcomers are: Eiler (1G80), Etrusco (1C52), Falterladen (1G77), Flexebu (7C01), Herocamper (1G09), Indie Camper (7A15), Kompanja (EO24), Lunar (3A62), MAN (EO26), Maxxcamp (7A17), MGM (EO20), Orange Camp (5B72), P.L.A. (5A52), Quantis (1G67), roadsurfer (EO57), Robeta (5A73), Roland Bauer (5B52), Stema (1G79), Wavecamper (7B53), Xgo (5A61), Ziegler (1G64).

Specialist visitor programme is growing

The close link between tourist destinations and the latest vehicles and accessories is the special attraction of CMT. The offer will be supplemented on the first CMT weekend (13/14 January 2018) by "Cycling & Adventure Holidays with Hiking". In 2018 this will also include the theme of "thermals": Kitesurfers, paragliders and hang-gliders will find their new home here. On the second weekend (18 – 21 January 2018), Golf & Wellness Holidays and Cruises and ShipTravel will also take place.

Specialist visitors will probably be interested above all in the third RV Site Summit: Thanks to this offer, the combination of caravaning and tourism will take place not only in the halls, but also in the seminar offers. From 15.00 on Monday, 15 January, tourism professionals and destination managers will meet caravan enthusiasts to obtain first-hand information on the development of motorhome parking sites. Successful examples from practice will be presented, and for the first time the event will be accompanied by an exhibition at which anyone interested can make direct contact with accessory manufacturers and planning offices.

Ticket special

Ten trade fair halls, over 2000 exhibitors from 100 nations and over 1000 recreational vehicles on location will make CMT 2018 the biggest CMT ever. In order to give visitors the opportunity to explore the trade fair at their leisure, for the first time there will be a 2-day ticket: For the price of 20 Euro, visitors can attend CMT on any two days of the trade fair. All information on tickets is available at www.messe-stuttgart.de/cmt.

Travel and infrastructure

The Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre boasts a unique transport infrastructure thanks to its location directly between the airport and the motorway. Direct connections to the A8 motorway, Stuttgart Airport and the S-Bahn (suburban railway) ensure pleasant and short routes.

Owners of caravans and motorhomes have also been catered for. The trade fair grounds contain several hundred parking spaces offering a power connection, waste disposal and a disposal station for chemical toilets. A parking space during the exhibition costs 25 Euro per night.
