ROTA THW3 from SCHUNK receives important design award

The flexible jaw quick-change chuck manages a balancing act between short set-up times and low maintenance. Its overall package of functional design, flexibility, and sustainability also convinced the jury of the iF Design Award 2022.

Idea, form, and function – these were just some of the criteria used by the design experts to determine this year's winners of the iF Design Award. The ROTA THW3 jaw quick-change chuck convinced the international jury on all points. Aesthetically, the chuck achieved high marks with its optimized outer geometry and fewer interfering edges. But it stood out above all for its inner values, and its function impressed on multiple levels. The developers have cut down on weight consistently in the product design. This helps to reduce energy input and enables faster acceleration and braking behavior of the lathe. Nevertheless, the lathe chuck still has an extremely rigid base body that ensures process reliable clamping even under maximum stress. Equipped with a jaw quick-change system, the ROTA THW3 can be quickly converted for a new range of parts and has an excellent jaw repeat accuracy of up to <0.02 mm. This means that the chuck can be adapted quickly and with high precision to changing clamping tasks and is particularly interesting for users, who produce small and medium batch sizes.

Sustainability was honored
In addition to its functionality, the jury was also impressed by the sustainable focus of the innovative clamping device. The patented sealing has allowed cleaning and maintenance intervals to be up to 20 times longer than with comparable products. This reduces the use of lubricants, cleaning agents and water, and helps protect the environment. By using resources sparingly, it makes a successful contribution to sustainable production while ensuring optimal functionality.
